Bella /Kristen Stewart as Snow White: Snow White and The Huntsman as the new Twilight?
Kristen Stewart will play Snow White in Universal’s ‘Snow White and the Huntsman,’ , scheduled for release in 2012. As detailed at The Daily Blam,
“Snow White and the Huntsman will feature Stewart as the ax-wielding exiled princess with Charlize Theron as the antagonistic Evil Queen…
In Universal Pictures’ upcoming film, Snow White, an 18-year-old princess who is only friends with animals, is getting more beautiful by the day as her step-mother, the Evil Queen Ravenna, gets more and more jealous. When Ravenna tries to kill Snow White, she escapes with the help of a hunstman named Eric who is trying to get revenge on the Queen. Eric is very gruff but teaches Snow White how to fend for herself against the evil creatures of the forest. When she eats a poisonous apple, her childhood sweetheart Prince Charmant must kiss her in order to unfreeze her lips and give her the potion to heal her. She thinks she’s in love with Eric, but he assures her Prince Charmant is her one true love.”
Echoes of Twilight anyone? Getting more beautiful by the day? (As Bella gets more beautiful once a vamp.) A huntsman named Eric? (Hmmm, what other gallant savior’s name starts with an E…?) Eric is very gruff? (Huh, does he sabotage her car and call her “Silly Snow White” too?) He has to kiss her to “unfreeze her lips” and heal her with a “potion”? (Well, with Edward, kissing him is more likely to freeze her lips and his “potion” is vampire venom). Snow thinks she is in love with Eric but maybe it’s really Prince Charmant. (Hmmm, smacks of the Edward/Jacob love triangle to me.)
Of course, Snow White pre-dates Twilight by a couple of centuries, but the forthcoming film adaptation definitely sounds like it is trying to jump on the Twilight bandwagon (much like the Hardwicke directed Little Red Riding Hood).
That being said, I think Kristen Stewart will make a cracking Snow White. Let’s hope her Snow is more decisive than Bella though, with less lip biting and more sexual agency please! What do you all think?

If I remember right when they were trying to cast the huntsman as an older guy (played by Viggo motersen or Hugh Jackman) there was no love triangle but now that Hemsworth was casted they are probably cashing on his youth and looks, because American culture doesn’t seem to believe that a man and woman can be just friends if both are young and hot.
Is very interesting, if you look at Japanese stories is very common to have a very strong bond with no sex involved, but it seems one of those memes here that don’t seen to die. Only when the guy best friend is guy or “nerdy” looking is when is just friends. I have had strong friendships with male friends and is sad that this is considered unthinkable in Hollywood *le sigh*
Yes, it’s so frustrating that Hollywood RARELY depicts movies where males and females are friends. Even class male/female friendships tend to turn to romances by the end of films – as with Harry Met Sally. Come to think of it, is there a depiction of male/female friendship where both are single and neither is gay where romance doesn’t play a role? I suppose Harry Potter is somewhat strong in this regard – though of course Ron and Hermione are eventually paired up. I ditto your *le sigh*!!!
I think Thor is a good example of a bunch of people with a female friend Sif, that doesn’t has anything sexual about their relationship…but there was a couple of commenters in TWOP that thinks that is also antifeminist because it implies that a woman that is equal to the guys is not desirable…
I personally loved the relationship among the warriors, it seemed like all of them were buddies without anyone checking out Sif’s ass or getting jealous of any of them or something like it. So there are always problems with male/female relationships it seems like ‘le sigh* again
I agree wholeheartedly with Ana; I’ve had some very strong relationships with guys and I find it a sad reminder for our culture that “Follywood” hasn’t a clue that this is possible. Instead, we’re regressing to the days where we women were taught that men were our saviors and that there really is a Prince Charming (hmph… more like Prince Chow Mein, if you ask me). What happened to the strong women of the cinema? I’m talking about women like Lt. Ripley of the “Alien Saga.” No super powers or special abilities-just common sense, determination, courage, and character. Let me emulate Ripley, that valkyrie of alien space, and whoever wants can take on the role of Snow White (nausea), Cinderella (gag), or Sleeping Beauty (hurl). And good luck with that fairy tale. 😉
Lin don’t get me wrong I love fairytales I just don’t like the immediate assumption that if a hot guy is helping a hot gal is because there are romantic feelings involved and I wanted them to keep it as mentor/student relationship. I don’t gag or get nausea or hurl at Cinderella, Snow White or Sleeping Beauty. I don’t have a “type” of woman that I love. I like them all in their own way, Ripley included of course, YMMV.
I am in hopes Katniss of The Hunger Games can be a Ripley-esque descendent in the film adaptations (and Jennifer Lawrence is an actress that can totally pull that off!), but of course that saga involves romance as well – at least is much less of the narrative than in Twilight…
Natalie – I heard that Hollywood has decided to play up the love triangle in Hunger Games – which is sad cause there are really so many powerful ideas in that series.
Oh nooooooo! I hope not. But, as it’s Hollywood, I don’t doubt it! I wish instead they would play up Katniss’s relationships with other females — her little sister, her mom, Rue…
