Will you be good Twi-virgins and ABSTAIN from the leaked Breaking Dawn images?
After various photos from Breaking Dawn were leaked yesterday, an official statement was released that begs fans not to post or even view the images. The story has made the rounds all over the Twi-net, as well as popped up at the LA Times and MTV.
What interests me most about the statement is the final paragraph, which reads to me as a plea to fans to ABSTAIN from Breaking Dawn activity until the movie is officially out. Or, in other words, don’t lose your BD-virginity before the Twi-powers that be officially “put a ring on it” by releasing the film.
Ah, the pro-virginity messages the franchise sends (that are all the while underpinned by TEMPTATION) never cease to amaze me!
The official statement in its entirety reads as follows (with the STAY A BD-VIRGIN plea in bold):
“Dear Twilight Saga fans,
As some of you may know, pictures and screen grabs of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn as a work in progress have leaked on the internet. We are extremely proud of this film and also extremely heartbroken to see it out there at this stage.
The film and these images are not yet ready or in their proper context. They were illegally obtained and their early dissemination is deeply upsetting to the actors, the filmmakers and Summit who are working so hard to bring these movies to fruition to you in November 2011 and November 2012.
Please, for those who are posting, stop. And please, though the temptation is high, don’t view or pass on these images. Wait for the film in its beautiful, finished entirety to thrill you.
Stephenie Meyer, Bill Condon, Wyck Godfrey and Summit Entertainment”
“Though the temptation is high” you must “Wait.” Ah, what a nice little pro-abstinance message.
The plea is also interesting in its framing of Meyer, Condon, Godfrey and Summit Entertainment as higher powers encouraging fans to do what is right and good – kind of like Twi-gods deciding how much knowledge mere Twi-humans should be privy to, and when. Like Church leaders, they wish to police their followers activities.
So, dear Twi-fans and anti-fans and everyone in between, will you “Be Good” and wait????
